Remember This...

Dear---
I want you to remember all of the good times you and your husband have had through all of your various struggles. Life hasn't been easy and at times it hasn't been fun. As you get ready to embark on a new chapter in your lives you need to take a moment to remember how the simple things in your life are worth remembering.
Remember when we had a waterfight in the backyard of your parent's house.
Remember when we bought our first couch from the DI.
Remember when Brittnee put together your entertainment center while Shane was sleeping because she was to excited to get her house set up to wait for him.
Remember when we bought our first bikes and Shane wrecked on the way home.
Remember when we used to eat at Fazolli's once a month with Summer and Chelsea and would laugh and talk for hours.
Remember the first time we floated the Boise River.
Remember when we bought our first new car.
Remember when we bought our first cat, and then soon followed by our first dog.
Remember when we ate saltine crackers, ramen noodles, rice, and carnation instant breakfasts because we couldn't afford anything else.
Remember when Shane got laid off and had to come home and tell Brittnee.
Remember when we couldn't afford the internet and so we had to bum wi-fi from the Hospital close by.
Remember when we didn't have a garbage disposal and so we improvised by using our toilet.
Remember when the garbage can was so far away from our apartment that we bought a big black industrial garbage can so we didn't have to empty it as often.
Remember our first Christmas, with our pathetic five foot tree with two gifts underneath.
Remember when we rode our bikes to work for four months to save on gas.
Remember these things when the road ahead gets tough. Remember to rely on each other and the simple things in life. Simplify, simplify, simplify and all will be right in the world for you two. Remember that the small things are the things that matter.

*I wrote this letter to Shane and I for our future ahead so that when things get rough, (living on one income, starting a family, moving into a new place) we can remember all of the other ways we made it through hard times or entertained ourselves through the tight times.
