Today is the day that we named our 44th President of the United States as he slowly made his way up Pennsylvania Avenue. For me, it was any other Tuesday. I had to work. I was sitting in my office, plugging away-minding my own, and listening to my iPod when a co-worker stepped into my office and asked why I wasn’t listening to Obama’s Inauguration speech. When I told him I was working he asked me if I was racist and didn’t want to hear his speech… Whoa!! First off, yeah maybe I didn’t really want to listen to his speech, not because I’m racist but because I was working… (For the record, I never listened to half of Bush’s speeches and voted for that guy) I will admit, I didn’t vote for Obama and therefore was not an original supporter, but he is the President for the next four years and I’m supporting him now so whether I watch or listen to the inauguration speech shouldn’t mean anything to anybody. Why is it automatically assumed that a person is racist if they don’t support Obama, but when they didn’t support Bush it was widely accepted? I see a double standard. Color has nothing to with it, it all comes from heart, and I’m totally appalled that someone would call me racist over this issue.

Brit,
I don't think I would have been so nice to that individual. I would have said exactly what you did in your blog. I didn't vote for Obama either but spent most of the day watching because I wasn't working and felt drawn to the TV. It was an amazing day even though I wasn't a supporter. He is the president and I will stand behind him.

That's really sad that someone would through that into the mix of everything! That doesn't make any sense! Sorry you had someone say that BUT way to go for standing up for yourself!
