Daydreaming...

I find it absolutely amazing that memories are tied to our senses. As I sit here at work today, plugging along and struggling with a couple of things, I was pulled away to a much more simple time, as the smell of flowers infiltrated my nose. How I remember and love that familiar smell of my childhood.
Mom was a florist, wedding planner, seamstress, designer, and whatchamacalit. She did everything and did it well, still does. When I was younger and living in Logan, Utah with my family, Mom owned her own business which she had named “Tammy’s Bridal”. She was very well known in Logan and there were back to back weddings each weekend and what seemed like countless ones during the week as well. Having been no stranger to wholesale florist because of the business when I was younger and even now when Mom needs some picked up from a local wholesaler for projects, I recognized the beautiful smell immediately and smiled.
After the smell of flowers diffused through the air, my mind began to wander to Mom and how wonderful she has been. Mom is a rock. She is tough. She has been through so many things in her life that it becomes an inspiration to keep plugging away at my sometimes far from perfect life. She is the one whom I turn to for advice, she is the one whose shoulder I have cried on many a time, and she is the one who taught me everything I know. I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without the mother I have.
So as I sit here and enjoy the smell of fresh cut flowers, I thought it a perfect time to tell Mom that I love her dearly and that I can’t wait to see her tomorrow!
Have a great day everyone, and may your day be interrupted by spontaneous and beautiful memories of old. Sweet daydreaming.
