This year Christmas doesn't feel "real". Shane and I have struggled with getting in the mood and spirit of the holidays. In part, this is due to the wavering questions of whether Shane will have any time off and whether we can visit with family. When it came to decorating, I got totally bummed and didn't want to do it. I took so many shortcuts, right down to using just the top of my tree on a table instead of the 8 footer we normally go with. I'm really trying to get in the mood though with Christmas music, gift giving/buying, and what little decorations we did use. Here's a sample of my lame decorating this year.

With about three weeks to go, I sure hope the spirit fills our home and that we can enjoy this wonderful time of year.

Hey Britt, I think when I've struggled to find the christmas spirit, I have always found it most when I do service for others! I had a friend in one of my wards who was single, and had a very limited budget. But every year she chose 2 or 3 families that she did special things for. Most of the time it was something like the 12 days of Christmas. She would wrap each day's gift separately, label it, and then deliver all 12 days in one box. (That way there was less chance of being caught.) She was a very sweet example of how to serve others. I tried this one year, and it was awesome! We changed it up a bit to fit the family we were doing, and our family, but the result was still the same. The spirit was amazing. Other years we may not have had as much to give, but when we make the sacrifices, the memories are always more sweet!
Another thing we have done is to find a little cradle, and try to fill it before Christmas eve. We read "The Last Straw" as a family, and then try to do nice things for each other in secret. For each nice thing done, we get to put a straw in the cradle. It is a fun way to focus on others, and try to be positive. It's amazing how the spirit changes when you are trying to help the others around you.
I don't know if any of these ideas helps, but I hope you can find that wonderful spirit of Christmas, because it truely is the best! Love ya tons!
