Currently, with LDS Family Services, there are around 1100 couples waiting for placement.
In Idaho, there are an average of 40 children placed yearly, a little less than 20 of which are infant placements and the remaining older children placed through Health and Welfare.
50% of birth mothers are seeking adoptive mothers who will not return to work after placement.
The average wait time for placement is 1 year, although placement is not guaranteed.
The more “openness” you are willing to be, the better your chances become.
The odds seem to be staggering, I will have to return to work, we would like an infant first and then following subsequent adoptions we will adopt from Health and Welfare. (In fact I found a 3 and 5 year old sibling group of boys that if all else fails just might be on our list), and I will also wait as long as it takes because this is the only way I can understand the joy of parenthood. Regardless of these odds, we just know that everything will work out for us. We pray every night that a birth mother will fall in love with us.
