It’s embarrassing to admit, but I have no money skills to speak of. Budgets get made and never last in my home. It’s the one thing that gets between my marriage and it’s the one thing I wish we could do without. After realizing this, drastic change was required. I didn’t want to live a life where money was an issue, nor did I want to be a slave to a job I can’t stand. We got down and dirty, posting many of our beloved electronics on Craigslist in hopes of getting financially fit. Boy was that hard. Then came an even uglier truth, we were paying way too much for cars. The dreaded four wheel box that is necessary to get from point A to point B was sucking us dry. It wasn’t worth it to us any longer to pretend like we needed both cars. I work within a mile of my home, why am I driving anyway? So yesterday we traded in both cars for ONE. We had some serious negative equity and some serious payments, and now we don’t. We have one car and two bikes. We have four legs and don’t have to stress about two HUGE monthly payments. It really makes so much sense, it’s a wonder we didn’t do it sooner. The truth definitely hurts, but I’m so glad that we were able to see the needed changes before we didn’t have the choice to change. In this world, you never know when it will start pouring down.
An interesting side note… The summer season is really bad for us. That’s when we spend. Every car we have purchased has been purchased at the end of June or first week of July. That didn’t change. We bought a new car after first filling our tank with gas and we also just had new tires installed on one vehicle. That is a Gropp thing, I’ve come to learn. If you’ve replaced your tires, a new car is on the way. I don’t know why, it just is the way it is.
So here’s to changing our habits and learning from our truths.
