And I'll say it again! I hate cars! Shane and I have forever had awful luck when it comes to cars, which when thinking about it is kind of pathetic seeing as we both work in the industry and love what we do.
This story is definitely a doozy though and tops the list. (I seriously hope and pray we can never top this one)
At 2:40 am this morning, Shane was woken from a dead sleep to a car alarm going off. Groggily getting out of bed he quickly realized it was our alarm that was sounding and sloppily got dressed to go outside to address the issue. We figured someone had just tried to break in or something and went about our business. Well about five minutes passed and Shane never came back inside, so starting to worry I jumped out of bed and ran to our window to see what was up. I saw Shane talking to a man and a police officer who had just arrived at our complex. I got dressed as fast as I could, scrambled to find my glasses so I could see and then stormed out the front door too. I was expecting to see the window broken or something but what I saw was much much more devastating. Someone had hit our car and taken off into the night. What, a hit and run? I never imagined I would ever have to deal with something like this. When the cops pulled up they asked Shane what he was doing and he told them that someone had just hitten our car. They said what's your name and when he gave them the information they sought, they told him they weren't here for him and drove off into our complex telling him that they would call it in and someone would be there to help us soon. Fifteen minutes go by and the same police officers come back and take the report. It's a hit and run with no suspect they say, but they might have a lead on our case. There had been a domestic disturbance called in at our complex and they thought the two were related. They took pictures of our vehicle and told us they would call us if they had any updates. Shane and I were flabergasted that this could happen to us. The guy in the car must have been going very fast because our car was moved six feet and up the curb when we found it this morning. The damage on the outside looks pretty extensive and because of what the car is worth and the possible hidden damage under the hood, we are looking at a totaled vehicle. We can see that the radiator was damaged, hoses are loose, and the battery is leaking acid and that's without raising the hood. Well after the police left at 3:15 am Shane and I rolled the car back into a "legal" parking space and tried to call it a night. We felt so upset and sick however that we just laid there. At 4:02 am this morning the officers called us with a report of a vehicle with recent damage to their bumper. They booked them for a DUI, failure to report an accident of an unattended vehicle, and possible domestic disturbance charges. We are not sure if it is indeed the guy because the last we heard they weren't talking, but the officer gave us an insurance name and policy number to use to collect for damages.
After trying to put this behind us and sleep it off, at nine this morning we woke up and surveyed the damage through better lighting. Everytime we walk by our front window or door we can't help but look outside and wonder why? I will be calling in the claim tomorrow and we will go from there.
