Living In A Man's World

Living in a man's world, I'm girl of only a mere 23 and have grown to love all that this man's world offers. I work in a grease shop and I love it. My office isn't a spectacular corner one with a beautiful scenic view, but instead a square room with two windows, both interior scenes with one viewing our grease covered shop and the mechanics that work there, but it's mine and that is my small proof of working my way up the corporate ladder at such a young age.
I've always been a girl who preferred the much more simple life of a tomboy. I played sports, I didn't dance. I wore tennis shoes, never heels. I preferred my hair in a ponytail and not flowing down my back. Makeup was nonexistent for me and I preferred to be natural. Now as a grown woman I find that I enjoy the man's life but with a much more pronounced femininity. I now enjoy dressing up in cute heels and slacks accessorized with cute necklaces and earrings. I enjoy feeling like I'm dressed to the nines even for work. I feel like I have nothing to prove and so I enjoy being a woman in a man's world.
A man's world is not the place for every woman. You have to learn to have tough skin and take things with a grain of salt. You also have to learn how to block out offensive things. On a daily basis I hear profanity, because boys like girls I hear a lot of that too, and of course the ever constant chatter of guns because, c'mon I live in Idaho, and cars which I attest to knowing nothing about and have very little interest in. However, with this atmosphere I surround myself with daily, I find that most men are willing to watch what they say when there is a woman around, and I've learned that I can be an example to the men I work with in things that are appropriate to say and or when to say them.
Living in a man's world I have come to find myself and some great people along the way. I have five guys who are like brothers to me. I know that they would have my back for anything and have many a time been able to turn to them for help. I have two bosses that are so close to me that sometimes they feel like father figures. They care about what's going on with me and not just whether my job is getting done. And I have countless friends to laugh with. I've been blessed beyond measure to be a 23 year old woman in a man's world.
