I’ve wanted to see the movie “Confessions of a Shopaholic” for a very long time, it seems, but since the movie has yet to hit Redbox and I’m desperately trying to live a budget, I haven’t been able to see it yet. The next best thing then was to check the book out at the library. I loved it. I soaked it up in two days and couldn’t wait to read the next one and the next one and the next one. However, now while reading the second book, “Shopaholic Takes Manhattan” I find myself utterly annoyed and disgusted with the way it represents life, debt, and materialistic things. It’s definitely a personal opinion, but even though the book is highly entertaining I don’t think it teaches good practices and I have found myself deciding not to finish reading the book or any others in the series because of this. I have mixed feelings….

Way to go. I heard an interesting thought from someone a few weeks ago. She said that Even if we don't realize it, we are vicariously living the lives of every hero/heroine in everything we read/see. That's why we need to be so careful about what we choose because eventually we can become that. I thought it was a profound idea, and it's really changed how I choose my reading/movie/music material. Way to go for choosing not to keep reading something!
